All Instructors have current DBS checks and have up to date safeguarding training which is refreshed every 2 years.
Chief Instructor – Sensei Myles Ponsonby 5th Dan

Sensei Myles started training in 1982 with a local club affiliated to Southern Shotokan Karate Association. Developing a love of karate, he trained as much as possible, achieving Shodan in December 1985.
Sensei Myles first came across the KUGB in 1988, attending the Summer School in Lancaster and was further inspired by the instructors.
Sensei Myles, after relocating to the Vale of Belvoir, sought out a KUGB club and joined South Notts SKC, instructed by Sensei Rob Manning. Gaining Nidan under the KUGB in 2003, Sandan in 2011, Yondan in 2015 and Godan in 2021.
Sensei Myles spent many years competing, winning Kata and Kumite competitions with the SSKA and then later, winning a number of medals with the KUGB. The highlight was in the same year, winning Central Region Team Kata and coming 4th at the KUGB National Championships for the same event.
Sensei Myles became a Qualified Instructor in 2011, a Judge in 2017 and Referee in 2018. Sensei regularly now officiates regularly at competitions nationwide.
